  2. This guide covers the basics of Siri, including some of the commands you can use to activate Siri, devices that have Siri included, and devices that support more advanced hands-free "Hey Siri" commands.

Activation of Siri

Siri can be activated by holding the Home button on compatible models or holding the Side button on devices without a Home button.

🔹On Mac :
you can click on the Siri app icon on the dock or the menu bar, or press and hold the command key and the space bar. On a Mac with a Touch Bar, you can press the Siri icon on the Touch Bar.

🔹On Apple watch :
you can say "Hey Siri" to activate Siri. On ‌Apple Watch‌ Series 3 or later with the latest version of ‌Apple Watch‌, there's a Raise to Speak feature that lets Siri respond to commands even without the Hey Siri trigger word. Just hold the watch near your mouth and speak. Siri can also be activated by holding down on the Digital Crown.

🔹On home pod :
say "Hey Siri" or press on the top of the ‌HomePod‌ to activate Siri.

🔹On Apple TV :
hold down the Siri button on the remote (the button with the microphone) to activate Siri.

Devices on which Siri can be activated :
  • Siri is on almost every Apple device, and it's built into macOS, iOS, watchOS, and tvOS. You can activate Siri on Macs running macOS Sierra or later, all ‌Apple Watch‌ models, ‌Apple TV‌, all modern iPhones, the ‌AirPods‌, and the ‌HomePod‌.
  • Most Apple devices have support for the "Hey Siri" activation command, but more recent iPads, iPhones, Macs, and Apple Watches offer hands-free "Hey Siri" Siri support even when not connected to power. That means you can use the "Hey Siri" trigger phrase at any time to activate Siri.
  • When multiple devices that can respond to "Hey Siri" commands are available, the devices will use Bluetooth to determine which one should respond to the request so not all of them answer at once.

Siri's Voice :
There are both male and female variations of Siri, and different versions the world over – but who are the real people behind the voices?

  1. John bringgs
John brigggs who is the voice of weakest link.was the first British male voice for Siri.

John: The original system was recorded for a US company called Scansoft, who were then bought by Nuance. Apple simply licensed it.

   2. Susan Bennett's
Susan Bennett is familiar as the American female Siri – as well as the the voice of Delta Airlines.

Susan: All of the original Siri voices worldwide came from a bank of digital voices that were recorded in 2005. I recorded four hours a day, five days a week for a month. The process is called concatenation, and the reason the original Siri was so iconic is because she was the first concatenated voice to actually sound human.

   3. Karen Jacobsen
Karen Jacobsen famous in Australia as the “GPS girl” – but her son still finds it strange to talk to a version of her that is trapped in a phone.

Karen: I had an audition. I read the brief and thought: “This is me. This job is mine!” I went to the audition and got the job on the spot!

Siri's communication

It has programmed its voice recognition software to interpret commands and questions through a series of steps allowing people to interact with Siri in as human a way as possible.

How Siri works ?

  1. After receiving the request, Siri records the frequencies and sound waves from your voice and translate it into the code.
  2. Siri breaks the code to identify patterns, keywords
  3. This data get input into algorithms and determine what input phrases means.
  4. This algorithm is complex enough to determine context of the sentences.
  5. Once the Siri determines its request,it begins to determine whether or not information needed can be accessed from within phones data banks or from online servers.
  6. Siri then able to craft complete and cohesive sentences relevant to type of command requested.

Google Assistant Vs siri Vs Cortana Vs Alexa

Voice assistants from Amazon, Apple, and Google all improve on smartphones but Google Assistant is still top.
investor analysts like Loup Ventures are keen to understand which company has the best interface for voice input.
the company tested Amazon Alexa, Apple Siri, Google Assistant and Microsoft Cortana against 800 questions to find out which was superior.
Google answered 88% of questions correctly, while Apple scored 75%, Alexa scored 72.5%, and Cortana came in with 63%. However, the test was on smart speakers and not smartphones.
"Google Assistant was the top performer in four of the five categories but fell short of Siri in the Command category again. Siri continues to prove more useful with phone-related functions like calling, texting, emailing, calendar, and music,".
"Both Siri and Google Assistant, which are baked into the OS of the phone, far outperformed Alexa in the Command section. Alexa lives on a third-party app, which, despite being able to send voice messages and call other Alexa devices, cannot send text messages, emails, or initiate a phone call."
